• Healthy thyroid function and metabolism: Iodine, selenium, zinc and vitamin E all play a significant role in the synthesis and regulation of thyroid hormones.^3,4,5 Thyroxine (T4) has four molecules of iodine and is converted to the biologically active thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T3) via the selenium dependant enzyme, iodothyronine deiodinase.⁶ Selenoproteins also play a protective role via detoxification of hydrogen peroxide (H₂0₂).⁷ Zinc and vitamin E also provide antioxidant activity via limiting lipid peroxidation and restricting free radical damage.^5,8
